went to a GREAT Chicago Symphony Orchestra concert this weekend...the highlight of the evening was the Schwantner percussion soloist piece...the guest soloist was this cool Scottish woman that came onto stage barefoot...at first I thought the reason behind this was because she was moving around so much and didn't want to disturb the other performers - uh...no - come to find out she was DEAF!!! She felt the vibrations of the percussion thru her bare feet...unbelievable!! I thought she was outstanding when I thought she could hear! It really makes me feel like a big loser as a musician to know that someone can be that great of a player without being able to hear what she is playing...also had a really nice dinner at the Italian Village on Monroe St. - nothing like eating Italian on St. Pat's Day weekend...
